SÜLEYMANİYE COMPLEX İMARET LOWER FLOOR RESTORATION WORK
Süleymaniye İmaret is one of the buildings of the Süleymaniye Social Complex, built by Mimar Sinan by Süleyman the Magnificent, and it is known to have been completed in 1557. The building is included in Süleyman the Magnificent foundation charter dated 1557 and in Mimar Sinan's memorandums.
Süleymaniye İmaret became the Evkaf-ı İslamiye Museum in 1913, and was used as the Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum during the Republic period until 1993. After the restoration work carried out in 1991, it has been used as a restaurant until today.
Süleymaniye İmaret is located in the northwest of the Süleymaniye Social Complex. The building consists of a classical Ottoman plan scheme, with its general planning developing around a cloistered courtyard. The imaret has a rectangular plan extending in the east-west direction, measuring 74.00 meters x 49.00 meters from outside to outside, and has two floors. Due to the topographic position of the land, taking advantage of the elevation difference, a barrel vaulted basement was created under the spaces around the courtyard.
Süleymaniye İmaret Lower Floor Restoration works started in 2017 and were completed in 2023.
