Located in the district bearing his name in Eminönü, the social complex was built by Mahmud Pasha, one of the grand viziers of Mehmed the Conqueror. The social complex, whose construction began in the early 1460s and was completed in 878 (1473-74), consisted of a mosque, a tomb, a double bath, an inn, a madrasah, a soup kitchen, a primary school, and a court of unknown nature. A fountain and dispenser were later added to the social complex. Of these structures, the mosque, the tomb, the inn and the men's section of the bath, and the classroom section of the madrasah have survived to the present day.
