EMİNÖNÜ RÜSTEM PAŞA MOSQUE RESTORATION - MAJOR REPAIR WORK
This mosque, which was built by Mimar Sinan in 1561, was built by Mimar Sinan for Damat Rüstem Pasha, one of the Grand Viziers of Suleiman the Magnificent and also the husband of his daughter Mihrimah Sultan.
The plan of the mosque is rectangular, the central dome sits on four elephant pillars and columns with arches. The narthex has six columns and five domes. Arches, columns and a section with a wooden roof and eaves were later added to the front. Every part of the Rüstem Pasha Mosque, up to the skirts of the dome, is covered with tiles. Particularly tulip motif tiles are considered to be one of the most successful examples of Ottoman tile art.
Restoration works of Eminönü Rüstem Pasha Mosque started in 2016 and the restoration works were completed in 2020.
